Young children are often allowed to ride on an adult’s lap, but there are age restrictions and this is certainly not the most comfortable or desirable arrangement. If you plan on purchasing a seat for your child, you need to decide if you will bring a car seat onboard. Keep in mind that you will not be allowed to use any child car seat that is not clearly labeled as FAA approved. However, if you need a car seat at your destination, you can check it with your other luggage.
